Foresight Cohort: Theory into Practice

By Phil Hauck, Envision Board President

Our first Network Cohort held its second meeting …  and they know that ChatGPT will be on the agenda each meeting for quite some time. Participants recounted how they are using it so far, mainly to write contracts and publicity material. One member used ChatGPT to develop a service contract, needing only a few adjustments to make it workable; it saved them $4,000 in attorney costs.  Another used it to develop the computer code for a new application, cutting coding time by 75%.  And still another member of the cohort uses it daily, along with DALL-E (for images), as part of graphic marketing communications efforts.  And yes, members are alert to bad information that might work its way in.

Members also discussed challenges in getting their teams to embrace Strategic Foresight techniques, seeking insight from the experiences of other Envision SF grads.

As at all meetings, the group considered one tenet offered by futurist Thomas Frey (our World Futures Day speaker of March 1), in this case how obsessions can stimulate and drive foresight thinking.

This group, our first Foresight Network Cohort, has 13 members.  As more former SF Workshop participants show interest in continuing to learn from each other’s experiences, another cohort will be established.  If you’re interested in getting involved in this supportive group to successfully apply what you’ve learned, contact Phil Hauck for more information.  The cohorts meet every other month for two hours, at a member’s location.

Note:  There is a newsletter that covers ChatGPT and other AI news:  www.notabot.tech. You might find it interesting.
